Sailing — Get Off the Beaten Path
A private yacht. A small crew. Days shaped by light, water, and where the anchor drops.
Each summer I take Lola, my 57ft yacht, through the Mediterranean — usually Greece and its many islands — moving between places that are often only accessible by boat.
This isn’t about long passages or fixed itineraries. It’s about sailing just enough to reach somewhere worth being.
A quiet bay with no one else around.
Water so clear it barely feels real.
Anchoring in places where the day slows down and the surroundings do most of the talking.
Each Summer, I invite a small number of people to join me for parts of my journey
The Experience
Life onboard naturally revolves around where we are.
Most days start with a coffee, a swim — straight off the boat into clear still water. Some days we sail. Not far, not fast — just enough to reach somewhere new. Other days, we don’t move at all, often we are somewhere just too good to leave.
Afternoons are for exploring — taking the tender ashore, finding a small beach, or ancient ruin tucked just out of sight, maybe followed by a nap.
Evenings are simple — Golden hour, sunsets you rarely see, a tender ride to the local taverna or good food, or something simple to eat onboard before relaxing under the stars
-
It’s not structured.
-
It’s not rushed.
-
And that’s the whole point.
Life Onboard
Numbers are kept low (typically 3–4 onboard), which makes a big difference to the atmosphere.
You’re not a passenger — but it’s also not hard work.
Everyone naturally gets involved where needed, helps keep things running smoothly, and settles into the rhythm of the boat.
No experience is required — just a bit of confidence in the water, reasonable fitness, and an easy, capable attitude.
Lola is set up to make the most of where we are:
- A good tender for getting ashore and exploring properly
- Snorkelling and scuba gear onboard for those who enjoy diving
- Plenty of space to swim, relax, and spend time in the water
- Simple gym equipment for those who like to stay in shape
It’s a balance — active when you want it, completely still when you don’t.
Who this tends to suit
This tends to work well with people who are:
-
Easy-going and self-aware
-
Comfortable in both social and quieter moments
-
Physically capable (moving around the boat, swimming, etc.)
-
Naturally considerate of shared space
It's less about experience, more about how you are to spend time with
Financial Contribution
"Running a yacht isn’t cheap. Sharing what it gives you makes it worthwhile."
If you’re invited to join, I ask for a contribution towards the day-to-day running costs of the boat — usually food, fuel, and shared expenses along the way.
There’s no fixed fee or set price. Things are simply shared as they come up, in a way that feels easy and fair between those onboard.
It’s an informal arrangement
-
It’s not a commercial fee, and no profit is made.
-
Just a way of sharing the cost of sailing and food.
-
Everything is discussed in advance so expectations are clear.
Practical Outline
-
Location: Greece, Turkey & wider Mediterranean
-
Season: May – September
-
Stay: Typically a minimum of 2 weeks
-
Crew size: Max 4 onboard

Note
It works best with people who appreciate the simplicity of it, and the kind of places you only reach by slowing down a little.
I receive a high number of enquiries, so I focus on finding the right fit for the boat and the dynamic onboard.
